A tropical wave southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands has a 10 percent chance of formation through 7 days, and a separate area of low pressure could form in the northeastern Gulf this weekend with a 20 percent chance of development through 7 days, per Island Free Press coverage of the NHC outlook — neither poses a current threat to the OBX.

The Central zone from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head faces a high near 101° Thursday with heat index values climbing as high as 115, according to the National Weather Service. Southwest wind will run 7 to 12 mph with gusts to 17 mph under sunny skies. The North Banks and Hatteras/Ocracoke zones stay cooler by comparison, with highs in the upper 80s. The National Weather Service has not issued a heat advisory or warning for the OBX zones.
