Good Morning — This Day on the Banks

A piece of Banks history: the weathered, shingled cottages of old Nags Head, first built on the soundfront and later moved to the oceanfront, are known as the Unpainted Aristocracy — a nod to their plain cedar shake exteriors and the old-money families who summered in them.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Bertha, located over the northeastern Gulf of America. No tropical cyclone formation is expected elsewhere in the Atlantic basin over the next seven days, and Bertha's track poses no current threat to the Outer Banks.

Nags Head Finishes Beach Fill

The Town of Nags Head announced Monday that the beach fill phase of its 2026 Beach Nourishment Project wrapped up Sunday, July 19, with the final connection tying the new sand into the existing shoreline. The project has run through the summer as crews pumped and graded sand along town beaches. Nags Head's update did not specify a start date for any remaining follow-up work.
